Introducing the Loyalty Engine: points, tiers, and automated rewards

After months of development and extensive beta testing with over 200 merchants, we are thrilled to announce the Loyalty Engine - the newest module in Gift Card Hero. This is the feature our merchant community has requested more than any other, and we built it from the ground up to integrate seamlessly with the gift card and store credit tools you already rely on.

At its core, the Loyalty Engine is a points-based rewards program designed specifically for Shopify merchants. Customers earn points on every qualifying purchase, and those points accumulate toward rewards that you define. Unlike standalone loyalty apps that bolt onto your store as a separate system, the Loyalty Engine lives inside Gift Card Hero. That means one dashboard, one set of customer records, and one unified balance for gift cards, store credit, and loyalty rewards.

The points system is fully configurable. You set the earn rate - for example, 1 point per dollar spent - and define minimum purchase thresholds if needed. Points accumulate automatically on completed orders, with no manual intervention required. Customers see their points balance in their account page, and they receive email notifications when they earn points or reach a new milestone.

Tiers add another layer of engagement. You can create as many VIP levels as you need - Bronze, Silver, Gold, or whatever naming convention fits your brand. Each tier comes with its own benefits: higher point multipliers, exclusive discounts, early access to sales, or bonus store credit on birthdays. Customers see their current tier and progress toward the next one, which drives repeat purchases as they work toward the next unlock.

Automated rewards are where the Loyalty Engine truly shines. You can configure triggers that issue rewards without any manual work. Set up a welcome bonus for new signups, a birthday reward that sends store credit on the customer's special day, or a milestone reward when someone places their tenth order. These triggers integrate with Shopify Flow, so you can build complex automation chains that fit your specific business logic.

The deep integration with gift cards and store credit is what sets this apart from other loyalty solutions. When a customer redeems their points, the reward is issued as store credit - which is backed by a Shopify gift card. This means the reward works everywhere: online checkout, Shopify POS, draft orders, and headless storefronts. There is no separate loyalty currency to manage or reconcile. One balance, one system, every channel.

For customers, the experience is seamless. They see their loyalty status, points balance, and available rewards on their account page. At checkout, they can apply their points with a single toggle - the discount appears instantly in the Shopify Checkout extension. No codes to copy, no separate apps to download. It just works.

We have also built comprehensive analytics into the Loyalty Engine. Track enrollment rates, points earned versus redeemed, tier distribution, and the direct revenue impact of your loyalty program. See which rewards drive the most repeat purchases and adjust your program in real time based on actual data.

The Loyalty Engine is available now in early access for all Gift Card Hero merchants on the Growth plan and above.
